Families in Motion was founded to support families in all stages of life. I believe that making lasting change begins in the home environment, and I strive to help families make these changes based on their individual wants and needs.
After working in a pediatric clinic within the constraints of insurance, I became frustrated. I was only really able to work with the child, and any interaction I had with the parents needed to be with the child present if insurance would cover it. At first, this might not seem like too big of a deal; but how is a parent supposed to ask for suggestions on how to handle some of the hardest parts of their child's day while their child is right there? Children hear A LOT more than we think they do, and I believe that we should avoid negative talk about our children as much as possible, especially when they are within earshot.
Families in Motion provides support to parents when these challenges arise and offers a space and time to freely discuss these challenges without children present. I provide unique suggestions based on your family's needs, and I work with you to implement these suggestions and find success at home.
Working in a pediatric mental health clinic for the first few years of my career allowed me to see the incredible progress that clients can make when they receive both occupational therapy and mental health therapy. However, many clinics don't have an integrative model that includes both occupational therapy and mental health therapy.
I provide general consultation for mental health therapists interested in integrating mind-body techniques into their therapy practice as well as specific case consultation for clients who have experienced complex trauma.
I also provide trauma-informed consultation to occupational therapists who are less familiar working in the realm of trauma.
Finally, I consult with teachers, social workers, and any other professionals who work with children who have experienced trauma to problem solve and provide suggestions.
